On the Water
We took a lovely boat trip around the island. Best views of the town.
According to some divers, this area is very overfished.
A stop on the boat trip included this luminescent cave.
An odd mix sea, buildings, mountains and cars in unnecessary places.
I always seem to come to churches during weddings. This mother and her sleeping baby outside the reception were too picturesque not to capture.
Yet another lovely church
Sarah (a friend from the hostel) and I made a grueling climb to the top of one of Taormina's mountains where the views were absolutely spectacular.
Sarah (of Australia/New Zealand) gets nostalgic with a gum tree on our way up.
Finally at the top. Dusk made some lovely shadows.
The church at the top of our climb was carved out of the rock face.
Sarah enjoys the view while I explore the church.
The view of the town from the top.
Off the Beaten Path
I moseyed up a tiny, cactus-ridden and probably forbidden trail to a rock fortress overlooking the church. I earned a few bruises from my adventure but the view was well worth it.
I stuck close to the wall of the fortress when I finally arrived. It was a long way down.
Try as I might I could not figure out how to get in.
